From time to time, I will send out a newsletter, and perhaps in between some special information about upcoming gallery or art events that I might be participating in.
But first a couple of promises from me.
1. I never share email addresses with anyone
2. I will not overwhelm you with emails, I just don't have that much to say
3. Though I may show you opportunities for workshops or classes, and may tell you where I am (or others are) hosting workshops or showing my art, I won't try to sell you anything
4. I don't collect any personal information unless you want to provide it to me
5. If you get sick of me, you can always unsubscribe (and unlike those emails we get every day trying to sell us something we don't want, the unsubscribe through MailChimp works!)
I just care about art, and if I can help someone get more excited about creating art, well that's all I really want to do.
We post our upcoming sketch meetups on Facebook, but we also send an email out to folks on our email list. If you want to be added to the Urban Sketchers email list to learn about sketch meet ups from your email inbox, sign up using the above form.
I've spent the last 25 years painting and drawing in a style of art that is often called representative. Over the course of this last year, I've started working in abstraction, sometimes just visually; but more and more I am working to document my work with texts. Not random quotes or pithy sayings I've found on the internet, but rather my own thoughts, fears, dreams, and feelings that I've wrestled with these past 3 + years since I've experienced loss.
I think good art informs the viewer of the artist, and I was not always getting that with my representational art. I'll still create representational art, but I hope you find my new work more interesting, thoughtful, and informative.
Someone once noted that I have a "dark side" and that is true. Years ago, I would have covered it over with a mask, perhaps pretending to be what the world wanted me to be. Pretending to be what I was not. I don't do that anymore. I have much joy and love in my life, but there is also some sadness and melancholy. The only thing I can promise is that when you see in me either, it is the real me. No masks.
I'll try to do the same in my art.
Free Downloadable Foldable Mini-Booklet
This short video shows you how to fold your download into a handy mini booklet.
In urban sketching they say that the act of sitting with the scene, being part of it and paying attention to the surroundings, the weather, the sounds, the wind, the people, provides a more meaningful connection than the quarter second snap of a camera shutter. I don’t think I’ll ever look back at a sketch, or drive by a place I've sketched; without thinking of or remembering my time spent there.
